Luke Walton On The Verge Of Landing New Coaching Job

He is rumored to be a candidate for the vacant Kings opening.

Before hiring Joerger in 2016, the Kings interviewed Sam Mitchell, Vinny Del Negro, Mike Woodson, David Blatt, Mark Jackson, Jeff Hornacek, Nate McMillan, Patrick Ewing and Corliss Williamson.

Divac was a fan of Walton's three years ago, when the Kings hired Joerger.

Now, for the fifth time since Phil Jackson last sat on the Lakers' bench in 2010-11, the Lakers will be looking for a new head coach to attempt to revive the proud franchise and take it to the postseason for the first time since the 2012-13 season. He was a part of the staff that won an National Basketball Association championship in 2014-15.

Walton, 39, parted company with the Lakers on Friday in what was described by the team as a mutual separation.

Beyond the early-season meeting, communication between Walton and the front office was fraught, sources told ESPN. Everything has to be in good order. "He was dependent on circumstances just like all of us". They're losing a guy who knows the game as well as anybody I've ever met.

Don't forget, Lue spent his first three seasons as a player with the Lakers winning a couple of rings in the process in 2000 and 2001. Originally, it was believed that the sprain would only keep him out for 4-6 weeks, but seeing as how the injury occurred in mid-January and he's still not cleared to play, that ended up being extremely wrong. The former second overall pick suffered a season-ending ankle injury January 19 against the Houston Rockets and saw declines in several per game averages from his rookie year, including points, rebounds, and assists. Walton later helped the Lakers win back-to-back championships as a key reserve in 2009-10.
