Two critically injured after shooting outside Melbourne nightclub Love Machine

Police said that the shooting occurred outside the venue near Little Chapel Street and Malvern Road in Prahran about 3.20am.

Four people have been injured following a shooting outside a nightclub in the Australian city of Melbourne.

Police believe multiple people were shot during the incident and say a 28-year-old man and another who is yet to be identified are in critical conditions.

Three of the men were aged between 29 and 50, with the age of the fourth yet to be determined, police said.

While the motive for the attack is not yet known, detectives are believed to be investigating links to an outlaw motorcycle gang which, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, has made extortion attempts on the nightclub.

Police have launched an investigation in the incident and people are being told to avoid the area and have urged anyone with video footage of the incident to contact them.

The Age reports a security guard was shot in the face, and another guard and a patron were wounded in the shooting involving a stolen black Porsche Cayenne.

Mass shootings are rare in Australia, which has strict gun laws introduced after 35 people were killed in 1996 at Port Arthur in Tasmania.

The country saw its worst incident since then past year after seven members of the same family died in a murder-suicide.
