Xiaomi Mi Play Teasers Show Waterdrop-Shaped Notch, Dual Rear Cameras

Xiaomi has sold over one million smartphones in the Redmi Note 7 series within one month of its launch. Unlike most smartphones that come with the front-facing camera cutout at the side, the Redmi smartphone will feature it in the centre.

Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi vice president (global) and managing director (India), has begun teasing the upcoming Redmi Y3, a successor of the successful Y2 series launched in 2018. The company has teased the launch of an upcoming Redmi smartphone on its Twitter handle.

Apart from this, Redmi GM Lu Weibing has also refuted rumours of a Redmi smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera.

Last week, a Xiaomi device dubbed as Redmi 2 Pro did a round of the rumor mill after it was reportedly leaked as the first device from a Chinese manufacturer to sport Snapdragon 855 chipset and a pop-up camera. Teasers also suggest that the smartphone is expected to come with media-centric features, good audio, and more.

We do know that this phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, and that it will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box. As far as pricing goes, it's safe to say it will be priced in the vicinity of Rs 10,000 - just like Redmi Y and Redmi Y2 series. There's also an 8MP front camera for selfies. Price is expected to be less compared to the other smartphone sporting the same chip. The device sports a dual rear camera setup with 12MP main sensor with LED and a 2MP secondary shooter.
