Marcus Morris' Son Makes Guest Appearance At Celtics Postgame Presser

Much of the ugliness of the game was a credit to the Pacers, who can make this series competitive only by making it as ugly as possible.

The Pacers' offense couldn't find its footing in the second half en route to an 84-74 Game 1 loss to the Celtics in Boston.

Jayson Tatum finished with 15 points. We just have to do the right things. Boston is a seven-point favorite and the over-under for total points scored is 209.5 in the latest Celtics vs. Pacers odds. The Celtics outscored the Pacers 26-8 in the third, as in missed its first 11 shots, committed five turnovers and didn't get credit for a field goal until the 3:28 mark of the period - and that came on a goaltending call. The 29 points that IN scored IN the second half were its worst of the season.

Cory Joseph was Indiana's leading scorer with 14 points. Bojan Boganovic was the lone Pacers starter in double figures with 12 points.

This shouldn't surprise anyone; it's hard to imagine any team thinking it can make less than 40 percent of its shots and commit 20 turnovers and still win. Boston hit just 36% (28 of 77) and had 20 turnovers.

The Pacers shot just 33.3 percent from the field (22.2 percent from 3-point range).

"In the third quarter, we started off with two turnovers", Pacers coach Nate McMillan said.

After a shaky start, it turned out to be Boston. They finished the quarter 2 for 19 from the field. "Then we had open looks that we didn't knock down, and I thought we lost a little confidence. They got the momentum and never let that go".

Likewise, Stevens said his team found something in that quarter. "We were really flying around".

Boston's run included a brief appearance by Celtics Hall of Famer and former Pacers front office executive Larry Bird, who was shown on the big screen during a timeout.

The third period ended with Terry Rozier connecting on an acrobatic 3-pointer with 0.1 seconds remaining to put the Celtics ahead 64-53.

Marcus Smart will miss the first round with a torn oblique muscle but Boston can plug either Gordon Hayward or Jaylen Brown into the starting rotation.

Morris, who was recently bumped from the starting lineup in favor of center Aron Baynes, nearly singlehandedly kept the Celtics afloat by scoring 12 of their next 14 points.

Stevens said he could tell Morris was probably going to have a good game, based on the team's two most recent practices.

"It was hard", Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. But it's tough. Those guys are physical.

"To steal one (of the first two games) is always the away team's dream, but as the home team there's a lot of pressure to go out there and perform infront of your home fans and I think it's always a level up that you expect yourself to go to". He joined Isaiah Thomas in 2015 and JoJo White in 1972.
