Rishabh Pant left out of India squad

Rishabh Pant left out of India squad

"We've seen Karthik finishing matches under pressure", said chief selector MSK Prasad.

While India boast a formidable top order that includes captain Virat Kohli, the search continues for a reliable number four batsman. The five wise men of Indian cricket, led by M.S.K. Prasad, met in Mumbai on Monday and picked the 15-member squad.

Khushdil's comments also come after Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur admitted that the national team are lacking a quality finisher going into the World Cup. The 50-over World Cup is scheduled to start in England on May 30. Kohli will play his third edition while Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were all a part of the 2015 edition.

"It is definitely a case which we have debated at length".

Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, 37, is first-choice wicketkeeper.

Amidst the speculations for the No. 4 spot, Ambati Rayudu - who is not being in good form - is missing out of the team. "That's the reason we went with Dinesh Karthik", he said.

'We did give a few more chances to Ambati Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions.

The selection committee has opted to go with KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik as the batsmen alongside Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit, Kedar and MS Dhoni.

"They hold the Champions Trophy - playing extremely well to win that, in England - so it's a series we're all looking forward to". We also have Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav.

Kedhar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Jaspreet Bumrah are also set to find their place in the squad for the marquee event. They will bowl in the nets and also stay as a standby should there be an injury.

It is expected that both the young fast bowlers will be travelling with the team to England as back-up, who could be drafted in if anyone from the pace troika of Bumrah, Shami and Bhuvneshwar get injured.
