Ilhan Omar: Muslim lawmaker sees rise in death threats after Trump tweet

Before Nancy, who has lost all control of Congress and is getting nothing done, decides to defend her leader, Rep. Omar, she should look at the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and ungrateful U.S. HATE statements Omar has made.

This statement attracted more hateful comments towards the Congresswoman after Trump tweeted it with the caption "We will never forget!" and added an edited video of the 9/11 attacks.

The controversy arose after Omar delivered a 20-minute address to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) shortly after the New Zealand mosque attacks in March. "For far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it. Cair was founded after 9/11 because they recognised that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties". "And frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it. CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties".

The New York Post featured a headline with Omar's face against the backdrop of a plane striking New York's World Trade Center and the words "here's your something".

In the April 12 tweet, Trump wrote: "We will never forget!" and included video of a speech Omar gave last month in which she said: "For far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it".

Ms Omar said she had experienced "an increase in direct threats on my life", adding: "It has to stop".

Sanders' defense of Omar came after he rushed to Omar's defense over the weekend as she was receiving national criticism for trivializing the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Her statement late on Sunday followed an announcement by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that she has taken steps to ensure the safety of the Minnesota lawmaker and the speaker's call for Trump to take down the video.

Raising her political profile but making her a target of anti-Muslim hate groups, the incident was something of a gift and a curse for Ms Omar.

A NY man was arrested and charged earlier this month with threatening to assault and murder Omar, according to the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of NY. Toobin said during a panel discussion about Omar Monday morning.

The media and twitter attacks on Omar follow the arrest two weeks ago of a right-wing Trump supporter in NY for threatening physical violence against the Minnesota congresswoman.

On Sunday, Pelosi asked House officials to review security measures meant to protect Representative Omar after President Trump's tweet.

Cooper started off by talking about Trump tweeting out a video targeting Rep. Ilhan Omar. She thanked Pelosi, the Capitol Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the House sergeant at arms for taking the threats against her seriously. "The memory of 9/11 is sacred ground, and any discussion of it must be done with reverence", she had tweeted.

CNN host Anderson Cooper called out President Donald Trump as a bully on Monday.

She rocketed to global celebrity as an inspiration for women after the unexpected election win, and she became only the second leader to give birth while in office since Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto.

Other prominent GOP voices joined Trump in criticizing Omar.

"We are all Americans".
