Breanna Stewart appears to suffer serious leg injury in Euroleague title game

The injury leaves her status uncertain for the upcoming WNBA season, which begins May 24.

Reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart was helped off the court during the EuroLeague Women championship game with what appeared to be a serious leg injury.

Previous year was magic for Breanna Stewart and the Seattle Storm.

She will undergo surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at a date to be determined.

The 24-yer-old injured herself during the game between her team the Seattle Storm and Dynamo Kursk, a Russian women's basketball club playing in the Russian Premier League. She immediately grabbed at her lower right leg while grimacing in obvious pain.

"This is a tough time for Stewie and our hearts go out to her", Storm CEO and General Manager Alisha Valavanis said.

Stewart has played overseas during each of the WNBA offseasons since she joined the league.

Stewart, a two-time All-Star, helped lead the Seattle Storm to the WNBA title last season.

Kentwood grad Courtney Vandersloot also plays for UMMC and had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead her team to the 91-67 win.

In addition to her lauded collegiate and worldwide careers, Stewart is a two-time WNBA All-Star and was the 2018 league MVP, as well as the finals MVP.
