Kings officially hire Luke Walton as coach

In his previous head coaching job, which was the first full-time stint of his coaching career, Walton went 98-148 in three seasons with the Lakers.

Days after parting ways with the Los Angeles Lakers, San Diego native Luke Walton was named head coach of the Sacramento Kings.

Rumors that Walton would take the job swirled just as former head coach Dave Joerger was sacked on Thursday - after the team's best season in 13 years.

Walton and Divac had played together on the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2004-05 season and the duo met on Saturday, when reports had first come out of their possible partnership, before making it official with this announcement.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski, that search will start with longtime National Basketball Association big man Juwan Howard, who now works as an assistant for the Miami Heat.

Per Woj, the Lakers plan to meet with Williams between Games 2 and 3 of their series with the Nets.

Should Willams take up the offer of coaching the Lakers, he would bring an excellent resumé with him. He compiled a 173-221 mark as head coach with New Orleans before being fired in 2015. This was because his Lakers were not having a good season despite adding LeBron James to the roster. Walton has reportedly agreed to be the next coach of the Sacramento Kings.

The terms of the deal have not been made public as per the team's rules.

Cleveland general manager Koby Altman will talk with Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard as well as Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley.

Not only is Lue a former player but he also has ties to LeBron, after he coached him during James' time in Cleveland.
