Man drove with wife's body in passenger seat

The release said the deceased woman, identified later as Linda Puckett, was nude and the driver was dressed only in underwear.

When Eloy Detective Adam Edmonds noticed a woman who appeared to be dead buckled into the vehicle, Puckett reportedly claimed his wife, 74-year-old Linda Puckett, had died at a hotel in Texas before he moved her body to the auto and kept driving.

Puckett told investigators he found his wife unresponsive on Monday and put her body in their vehicle before continuing an unplanned trip to California.

According to police, Puckett's home was three states away in Oklahoma, and he said that he and his wife had been on a trip. That is according to court records.

Rodney was booked into Pinal County Jail for abandonment or concealment of a body.

Linda filed for divorce and sought a protective order against her husband earlier this year.

Officials say they were tipped off to the situation after a fast food employee called police, saying a man and woman were naked in the vehicle.

"I have been in law enforcement and with the Eloy Police Department for 17 years and this is the most freaky case I have ever seen in Eloy", said Eloy Police Department Sgt. Kristie Barnette. Other charges may be added later.

A Silver alert was issued for Puckett last month, a week after he went missing from his Oklahoma home.

The alert was canceled when authorities learned that he hadn't been heard from because he was in a Kansas jail for eluding police. Rodney Puckett was wearing only underwear.

According to reports, he was stated as having bipolar disorder.

Relatives have been known to live with the bodies of their loved ones after they have died of natural causes.
