Amazon adds faster processor, more storage to $50 Fire 7 tablet

Amazon adds faster processor, more storage to $50 Fire 7 tablet

Amazon also introduced a new version of its Fire 7 Kids Edition. "For under $50, we're making it even better for customers with a faster processor and [double] the storage, so customers can enjoy even more of their favorite entertainment at home and on-the-go".

Amazon claims the Fire 7 is twice as durable as the recently-released iPad mini 2019, although doesn't go into detail how this figure was achieved save for saying "as measured in tumble tests" and that it "stands up against drops, tumbles, spills and everyday wear and tear". It still has 1GB of RAM, the same 7-inch IPS display, and 2MP rear camera, though the front-facing camera is now 2MP, too. Interestingly, the battery life is listed as up to 7 hours, which is actually one hour less than the old model. The physical appearance remains unchanged but there are three new colorways to choose from including Plum Red, Sage Green and Twilight Blue. Take and share photos and save them for later with free, unlimited cloud storage. Of course, you can still expand storage up to 512GB with a microSD card. Now, you just need to be connected to Wi-Fi.

Screen Sharing: Let an Amazon expert guide you remotely through any feature on your screen, available 24x7, 365 days a year - for free. Getting the tablet without special offers is an extra $15 for both storage options.

The new Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition is also available to pre-order from today (May 16), hits stores on June 6, and it comes in Blue, Pink and Purple colors.

The Kids Edition comes with the same upgrades as the standard version but also adds an adjustable kickstand in its ruggedized casing.

There's also a free year of Kids Unlimited which includes access to thousands of kid-friendly books, Audible audiobooks, educational apps, games, and videos-all hand-selected and age appropriate. Anyone that purchases before the June 6 ship date will also receive a $10 credit that can be used in the Amazon Appstore.
