Google is testing out a radically different design for Google Assistant

Sonos has wanted to bring multiple voice assistants to its products, that way it is able to appeal to all of its users. Request and control with voice from a growing list of streaming services, including: Spotify, YouTube Music, Google Play Music, Pandora, TIDAL, TuneIn, iHeartRadio and Deezer to start.

If you have a Sonos Beam connected to a TV that supports HDMI's ARC and CEC features, you'll be able to use Google Assistant to turn the TV on and off, adjust the volume, and switch the audio source from TV to music.

Sonos is opting for an agnostic approach to its participation in the smart speaker market, having added a second voice assistant, Google Assistant, to its app alongside Amazon's Alexa via an update released yesterday (May 14).

This update is rolling out now starting in the USA and then will be expanded to the UK, Germany, Canada, Australia, France, The Netherlands and more over the coming months.

The Google Assistant - known chiefly as the voice of this Google Home speaker that is smart is increasingly central to the new products of Google.

That's important, because your Sonos One or Sonos Beam may already be your Alexa smart speaker.

Tuesday google is expected to announce updates and expansions to its AI Assistant at its annual developer conference.

When I first reviewed the Sonos One, I wrote that it was a promise for the future as the out of the box functionality was great, but would really only be fully realised once both voice assistants were enabled.

Plan your day: Get help with things like your flight information, or traffic on your commute to work.

Google services are blocked in mainland China, but there are still millions of Chinese speakers across the world with access to Google Assistant.

"We value freedom of choice, empowering listeners to choose what they want to listen to and how they want to control it". Though you likely wouldn't do that often, as you could simply ask Google. Amazon's Echo devices maintain a solid lead on the marketplace, according to eMarketer; the company estimates that 63% of US smart speaker consumers will speak with an Amazon apparatus this year, in contrast to 31% that will utilize Google. Google claims the Assistant is now available across over a billion devices, but many of these are smart phones whose owners might never have quieted the Assistant's long term phrase,"OK Google". That includes smart home control, broadcasts, and continued conversations.

Sonos (Nasdaq: SONO) is one of the world's leading sound experience brands. After all, you can get the Assistant on a $29 Google Home Mini.
