Kane in England squad but injured Loftus-Cheek misses Nations League Finals

Southgate has confirmed that a reduced 23-man squad will be confirmed by Monday 27 May.

Harry Kane has scored 17 goals in 20 appearances for the England manager, and one suspects that celebratory run across the pitch in Amsterdam was enough to book his place in Portugal. Although we have had to play a few matches without him across the two years, I think he has started 14 of our last 21 or 22, so there are lots of times we have had to get results without him as well.

United's player of the year has been left out of the England squad for the UEFA Nations League in June.

"We'll have to look at assessing everybody after the Champions League Final because there's the physical aspect of that game but also the emotional fallout from it".

"We're really looking forward to the opportunity to finish the summer off, once everything's done", he said.

"So no, I don't think it is an absolute he has to play in Madrid or he is not ready five days later". We are just going to have to play it by ear because he is not going to have had a game prior to that point. "We're keeping that door open and will see how that progresses".

Southgate led England to the World Cup semi-finals past year - the first time they had reached that stage since 1990 - and their success in Russian Federation prompted fervent celebrations from fans back home.

The striker has been missing through injury since 10 April after another ankle issue, but his selection for England suggests he will return to fitness in time for the Champions League final. Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose have been excellent for us so they are ahead in the pecking order.

Fabian Delph, Joe Gomez, Jesse Lingard, Harry Winks and Nathan Redmond all returned to the squad, while the likes of Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and James Maddison missed out.

The former England defender's revolution came as he introduced a new and exciting style of football to the senior side that he had used while in charge of the Under-21s, as well as bringing talented, young players into the set-up, creating competition in his squad.
