Man City players must win again and again, says Pep Guardiola

Manager Pep Guardiola, whose side can land an unprecedented treble of both domestic cups and the league title on Saturday afternoon, elaborated on the same theme admitting that Manchester City's success is likely to turn the neutrals against them in the future.

The 33-year-old Belgium centre-back lifted the FA Cup in 2011, when City ended a 35-year trophy drought by beating Stoke City 1-0, although heartache followed two years later at the national stadium when they were on the receiving end of an upset loss to Wigan Athletic.

But they lost out to City after a 14-game winning streak to finish the season and De Bruyne says it shows they were better than Jurgen Klopp's side.

City could reportedly face a season-long ban from the Champions League if they are found to have breached the regulations but it is not known if chief investigator Yves Leterme supports such a penalty. But we're still competitors. That was another example of how we never give up - we always fight to the end and continue believing we can win.

The England worldwide has a combined 56 goals and assists in the Premier League over the past two campaigns, compared to 21 during his first two seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

"To be in the final, that's massive and people might say it's just another cup, but for us to be in the final is a massive achievement", Sterling said.

"Do you think someone can just for one second imagine that we could be thinking about tragedies involving Liverpool people?"

He concluded: "Hopefully we can celebrate the FA Cup Final, the Premier League, the Carabao Cup and the Community Shield, on Saturday and especially Monday with our fans and the people". Purely, that's how I felt at the time.

Led by Sir Alex Ferguson, United won three consecutive Premier League titles between 2007 and 2009 as well as the Champions League, something Guardiola will be looking to imitate at Man City.

"I think if I play well they'll have had a very hard day", he said.

Sane has two seasons left on the deal he signed when he joined City for £37m from Schalke in 2016 but talks over an extension are yet to reach fruition.

"We want him to stay", said Guardiola. "We spoke with Vinny and we are going to speak after this game".

"The problem is the period between November and February and March".

Sterling was voted the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year for 2018-19 and was named in the PFA Team of the Year alongside team-mate Silva. "When he is fit he is incredible".
