'Russian Doll' Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix

'Russian Doll' Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix

In a conversation with Recode's Kara Swisher, Netflix VP Cindy Holland teasingly asked "Russian Doll" star and co-creator Natasha Lyonne if she'd be interested in a second season.

Despite the fact that many thought Russian Doll's eight half-hour episodes represented a ideal story with a surefire ending, Lyonne and co-creators Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland first sold it as a three-season series to Netflix. The show follows Natasha Lyonne's Nadia Vulvokov, a New York City woman, who just can't seem to escape the endless loop of going to her birthday party, getting killed and coming back to life.

The series, which Lyonne co-created with venerable amusing lady Amy Poehler and Sleeping with Other People writer-director Leslye Headland, debuted on Netflix in February of this year to sweeping praise.

The streaming site announced at the CODE Conference in Arizona on Tuesday, June 11 that the critically acclaimed comedy-drama series will live on for another loopy season.

"It's such a personal show for me, it's very autobiographical, especially in the sort of thematic sense". Headland revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in a January 2019 interview that she, Lyonne, and Poehler actually pitched Russian Doll to Netflix as a three-season series. When Nadia sets out to unravel the mystery of her time loop, she meets a man named Alan (Charlie Bennett) stuck in a similar loop to her, and the two journey deep into their own emotional states as they seek out answers. "Here are the resources and the support - take off'". Russian Doll is an excellent look at a wonderfully complicated female character and the joys that we, as the audience, can have while watching her journey. For those who didn't watch the Netflix show's first exemplary season, where have you been, friend?
