Tottenham outbid Arsenal for Saliba - should the Gunners up their offer

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be in the process of hijacking Arsenal's proposed deal for Saint-Etienne talent William Saliba after it has been reported the 2019 Champions League finalists have trumped their north London rivals and are set to finalise their own agreement.

However, as reported by RMC Sport, Tottenham are now ahead of Arsenal in the battle to sign the France Under-20 global.

Zaniolo is clearly a talented individual, he had a great season for Roma which culminated in a call up to the Italian national team.

However, in a potentially huge blow to Arsenal, both from a football and a pride perspective, RMC's Mohamed Bouhafsi has shared information on Twitter about a late Spurs offer for Saliba that eclipses the bid submitted by the Gunners.

Arsenal were reportedly close to finalising a deal which would see them sign the 18-year-old before loaning him back to the Ligue 1 club next season.

"Negotiations between Arsenal, Saint Etienne and Saliba were in their very final stages - much of it already in the hands of lawyers to agree wording of contracts etc - but Tottenham have reignited their interest and are now pushing hard to get the deal completed", Ornstein wrote. "Could well be that Spurs have now hi-jacked it at the last minute".

Arsenal have so far only signed Gabriel Martinelli this summer and the Gunners are thought to be keen on bringing in a number of new players before the new campaign.

Besides raining on Arsenal's parade, Toby Alderweireld's future has also prompted the Lillywhites to make a move on Saliba.
