Waze Update Willl Show Toll Road Prices

On the other hand, drivers may elect to take the toll road if they can save serious time by spending a few bucks.

Crowdsourced navigation app Waze is getting a potentially valuable new feature - toll prices.

Given that it's actual Waze users who deliver the toll information, it wouldn't be surprising to see tolls support appear in other markets in the near future. Traffic-aware systems can add a layer of extra data on top of that, integrating reports of real-time congestion and other road conditions that might impact what would otherwise be the most direct route.

Most mapping apps will tell you if there are toll roads during your journey.

Typically, navigation apps and in-car systems rely on two key metrics to decide on a route.

According to SlashGear, the new feature should show up in the latest version of the Waze app.

Most navigation apps do let you know whether the road has tolls or not. This way, you can select another path right from the beginning instead of struggling to find a different one right on the road reducing your chances to actually avoid the toll. The feature will be available in the U.S. and Canada initially, but hopefully other markets will follow.

The Waze update is now rolled out for both, Android and iOS smartphone users. Waze says that it will initially be supporting data for over 5,000 miles of toll roads across the continental USA, so that a route can show not only length of journey and duration, but the potential cost of having to pay to use different stretches of highway or bridges. When you update the app and start using it, you will see detailed information about the route and available tollgates including their prices.
