Inter to improve offer for wantaway Manchester United star Lukaku

United and Inter meet in a friendly in Shanghai on Saturday, but the Italian club are likely to make their offer before then. Over the last two years, the Belgian striker has been the top scorer for the Premier League heavyweights, but has not managed to maintain consistency in doing so.

The Belgian, who has been strongly linked with a summer move to Inter Milan, was expected to be fit after missing out against Perth Glory due to injury.

The Serie A side were thought to have accepted defeat in their pursuit of Lukaku, with United insisting they pay at least £79m to sign the striker this summer. "He's trained all week while we've been here so it will be good to see him".

Solskjaer has said he will look to replace Lukaku if he leaves but against Leeds, Mason Greenwood made his case to be the one to fill the void. But, with the Belgian global facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Conte seems to be sensing the opportunity to finally secure his services, albeit at Inter Milan.

Inter were hopeful of wrapping up an initial two-year loan deal for Lukaku with payments of £9m, £27 million and £27 million coming over three consecutive years.

But they are only in a position to come up with a guaranteed £60m over three years, with the further £15m dependent on how successful Lukaku is at the San Siro. Icardi did not travel with Inter for the club's preseason tour of Asia.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to be drawn on whether Lukaku will stay at United as transfer talks continue with Inter.

United are increasingly confident of De Gea signing a new long-term deal and Solskjaer suggested it is a matter of "if and when" a contract is agreed with the Spaniard.
