Kieran Trippier completes switch from Spurs to Atletico Madrid | Tottenham Hotspur

"I've always wanted to play overseas and what a place to play in Madrid", Trippier told Atletico's website.

Trippier signed a three-year dealing tying him to the club until 2022.

Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier in a deal which could reportedly cost them £25milllion.

"The Englishman is a versatile full-back who can also play in midfield and has a fantastic right foot".

The man who was the first choice for England in the 2018 World Cup finals may not be the only arrival at Atletico this week with the side that finished behind FC Barcelona in last season's Liga Santander expected to seal a deal for Espanyol's Spain worldwide central defender Mario Hermoso for a similar fee.

The Atletico boss requested the signing of Trippier because he believes he has what it takes to form part of the new-look back four.

But the former Manchester City trainee still made 38 appearances across all competitions as Spurs finished fourth and made it all the way to the Champions League final at Atletico's Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

He will now call the Spanish capital home, with Atleti signing the right-back they were seeking having released the experienced Juanfran after his contract expired this summer.

According to The Guardian, Atletico paid Spurs a fee of at least £20 million.

Trippier will be the first English player to play for Atletico in La Liga and the third British player in Spain's top flight next season alongside Scottish forward Jack Harper of Getafe and Real Madrid's Gareth Bale.
