Watch the ‘Cats’ trailer, featuring Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and Idris Elba

Watch the ‘Cats’ trailer, featuring Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and Idris Elba

The movie musical, due out on December 20, is directed by Tom Hooper ("The King's Speech", "Les Misérables") and stars Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Taylor Swift, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson and Francesca Hayward. Singing cats. You'll love it. The musical now has perhaps its biggest adaptation of al although as it makes its way off the stage and onto the big screen in a new movie directed by Tom Hooper (The King's Speech, Les Miserables) from a script that he wrote with Lee Hall (Rocketman).

Most of the trailer features a ballad by Jennifer Hudson, but we haven't heard any other news about the music in the movie yet. As purrr tradition of Cats, the cats in Tom Hooper's Cats are played not by cats, but humans donning form that one, were one a little too sauced on the catnip, might liken to something vaguely cat-adjacent.

So you might go looking for Idris Elba and end up finding Macavity. When the cats were revealed, however - an uncanny amalgamation of the actors' human faces and a feline-adjacent body - social media users were less than convinced.

Man they weren't kidding about the "digital fur technology".

Actor Ian McKellen noticed some people were in doubt about the film but urged them that more was in store.

Cats hits theaters on December 20.

It is based on the musical of the same name, which in turn was based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot.

One of the stars, musician Taylor Swift, posted a clip of herself from the trailer on social media, saying, "I am a cat and somehow that was everything".
