The Boys Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon Ahead of Series Premiere

The Boys Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon Ahead of Series Premiere

The upcoming TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's graphic-novel is set in an America where the planet's superheroes have been morally corrupted by their celebrity status and often take advantage of their powers in reckless displays of behavior which threaten the safety of the world.

Amazon Studios announced Friday that it has renewed the irreverent new superhero series for a second season on the streaming service, a full week before the show has even made its series premiere.

In the show, superheroes are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as Gods.

The Boys entire eight episode first season will debut on Prime Video on July 26. Enter the titular Boys, who set out to expose these heroes - and the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that backs them - for who they really are. But they also abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good.

Another juicy tidbit from The Boys panel at SDCC 2019 was the news that You're the Worst actress Aya Cash will climb aboard the cast - which includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Jack Quaid as "Wee" Hughie Campbell, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara as Female - on season 2 as the superhero Stormfront. Simon Pegg guest stars.

Seth Rogen and Eric Kripke, executive producers of The Boys, and several members of the series' cast were in attendance at the presentation where the early renewal announcement took place. Kripke also directed the season finale.

The source material, which ran for 72 issues between 2006 and 2012, was co-created by Darick Robertson, who helped co-create the Happy graphic novel series that was recently adapted by SYFY, and Garth Ennis, who's known for creating the Preacher comic series with a TV adaptation now running on AMC.
