Jio GigaFiber service to launch on 5 Sept 2019

India's top network provider, Reliance Jio, today announced it's going to offer free HD or 4K TVs, and 4K-enabled set-top boxes along with its upcoming broadband service's annual subscriptions. The pricing will range between Rs 700 per month to Rs 10,000 per month.

Ambani at the Reliance AGM also announced Jio Digital Platform and Solutions, including a partnership with Microsoft. Besides, the company is also speculated to launch the Jio GigaFiber broadband service.

The deal valued the business at $75 billion including debt, he said.

Reliance also introduced tariffs for fixed line worldwide voice calling, which Ambani termed as the end of an era of high global calling rates. We can expect social media apps like Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube out of the box. It also announced an unlimited US/Canada voice calling pack at Rs 500 per month.

In addition to the above, customers have to spend around Rs 250 per month for watching cable TV, taking the total to about Rs 1,150 plus taxes.

Jio also announced ultra-cheap fixed line global calling rates, including an unlimited US/Canada voice calling pack at Rs 500 per month. The device could be priced somewhere around Rs 4,500. Full details of Jio Fiber plans will be available before Sep 5th, 2019.

It is expected to lead to massive consolidation in the sector, which now has an estimated 10,000 or so cable operators and around half a dozen DTH services. They have planned to launch GigaFiber on their 3rd anniversary in India.

He also added that Reliance Jio is growing fast with 10 million subscribers every month.

The second biggest player is Bharti Airtel, which has around 2.3 million wired broadband connections.

Jio GigaFiber has been announced and will be available commercially starting from 5th September 2019.

Last year, Jio commenced the registrations for GigaFiber and the company stated that the rollout would be prioritise based on the response received from the location.

Ambani also said, "Over the next 12 months, Reliance Jio will install one of the largest blockchain networks in the world in India, with tens of thousands of nodes operational on day one".
