K-pop superstar group BTS taking a 'break'

K-pop superstar group BTS taking a 'break'

World-famous K-pop boy band BTS will be taking an extended vacation starting this week, their agency announced on Monday, a day after their grand concert in Seoul.

BTS' management company, BigHit Entertainment, announced the news on the socials and while they didn't reveal when the beloved boys will return, BigHit Entertainment did use the word "brief".

The seven-member band's global fan base reacted sympathetically after Big Hit Entertainment said in a statement issued at midnight on Sunday that BTS would take their first official break from recording and performing since they formed six years ago.

"I love you very much and hope you enjoy your break to the fullest", a fan commented.

During this time, the members will rest and recharge in their own personal ways.

The agency didn't say when BTS will perform again.

While other Korean labels have been fighting desperate rearguard actions after a gang of high-profile K-popsters were netted in a sordid sex, drugs, rape and prostitution scandal centered around now-defunct Gangnam nightclub Burning Sun, Big Hit and their star act have remained well above the fray. "It will also be time (for them) to enjoy the life as ordinary young men in their 20s".

Known for their meticulously choreographed dance style and boyish good looks, they were the first K-pop group to reach number one on the U.S. album charts.

The Korean boy band's management officials have issued a statement alerting fans to an upcoming hiatus, and asking them to let the pop idols rest up in peace, so they can all return "refreshed and recharged".

"This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentless driven themselves towards their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators".

Hundreds of thousands of fans wrote on the BTS Twitter account - which has 21.3 million followers - to wish them a happy vacation.
