Alisson out 'the next few weeks' with calf injury

Alisson out 'the next few weeks' with calf injury

Liverpool started their Premier League campaign with a 4-1 thrashing of newly-promoted Norwich on Friday night.

"Not too cool. It's a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while", added Klopp of Alisson's injury. "It's a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while", Klopp told Liverpool's official website.

"I think the main thing in our minds is that we still see ourselves as underdogs, we still see ourselves as a hungry team that hasn't achieved what we want to achieve yet".

Trent Alexander-Arnold has no qualms about Adrian replacing Alisson in the Liverpool goals.

Veteran stopper Andy Lonergan spent some time with Liverpool during pre-season on their U.S. tour and is now a free agent. A prolonged absence would heighten the pressure on deputy Adrián, who left West Ham on a free at the end of last season after making 150 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool need to quickly sign another goalkeeper to provide backup to Adrian as the Merseyside club have several key games coming up, and can't go into these games with just one fully fit keeper in the squad.

"He was in with us, he's a brilliant character, a really nice lad and helped us a lot in the pre-season, and now we (have) chose to work together with him".

After being released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, the 35-year-old spent the summer with Liverpool in their USA summer tour as Alisson missed the tour due to Copa America duties with Brazil.

"The reception he got [on Friday], I think he feels as though the supporters are already behind him". I didn't speak to (goalkeeping coach) John Achterberg yet about that.

"And at that level, no matter how long you've had off, just because of what a good game it'll be to play [in] and [it's] a chance to win silverware and [there will be] a great atmosphere as well".

Alisson's loss for an extended period would represent a blow to the club he joined from Roma in a £65million switch last summer.
