System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition Announced

System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition Announced

Nightdive Studios announced today that it is working on an enhanced edition of System Shock 2.

There aren't any further details than this, but the enhancements will likely be in line with the features planned for Nightdive Studios' System Shock.

The game is a first-person survival horror set aboard a starship in the year 2114, it tasked players with dealing with an infectious outbreak that was more than meets the eye.

System Shock 3 is still happening, although it has no release date yet.

One design point they could leave in the past, however, is the fact that the textures on the sphincter doors in System Shock 2 were taken from actual colonoscopy photos. From a developer who worked on the original game.

We know little and less about System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition at this stage. Released back in 2015, the Enhanced Edition of System Shock included updated controls and graphical improvements, among other enhancements. System Shock 2 is one of the most influential immersive sims of all time, but quite frankly some parts of it just haven't aged well, especially its often un-intuitive skill tree. So we're still waiting for news on exactly what it will include, when it's due for release, and what state it's now in. Given the obvious focus on getting the System Shock remake out, we feel the Enhanced Edition of System Shock 2 will either release alongside the System Shock remake in 2020 or slightly thereafter.

System Shock 2 was an incredibly important game for the game industry so it's excellent to see it being given some love.
