Black Panther 2 Announced, Gets May 2022 Release Date - Disney D23 Expo

Straight from Hall D23 at D23 Expo 2019, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and filmmaker Ryan Coogler officially confirmed that Black Panther 2 is on the way!

The long-awaited release date for Black Panther 2 has finally surfaced and - unfortunately - it's pretty far from today.

Black Panther grossed $700 million in the USA, becoming the highest-grossing Marvel movie of all time-domestically-until being unseated by Avengers: Endgame.

It was also scored seven Oscar nominations, including one for best picture - which was a first for any Marvel superhero movie - and won three. Feige teased revealing the film's title (it's not Black Panther II, although that was what the logo they showed onscreen here at D23 said), the villain, and the opening of the movie - but Coogler said it was too early to talk about any of that. In addition to Lamar, the soundtrack featured SZA, Travis Scott, the Weeknd, Future, James Blake, Swae Lee, and more.

"We're not taking our time, we're really trying to get it right", Coogler said of the production schedule.

Other upcoming Phase 4 Marvel films include "Black Widow" (May 1, 2020); "The Eternals" (Nov. 6, 2020); "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (Feb. 12, 2021); and "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (May 7, 2021).

The film also made history with its almost all-black cast.
