‘Star Wars’ Confirms Ewan McGregor-Starring Obi-Wan Kenobi Series for Disney+

Disney+ made its D23 Expo debut this year and came packed with lots of exciting announcements for its first-ever showcase presentation. And as of now, the big screen future of Star Wars is uncertain.

The audience of about 6,000 at a convention center adjacent to Disneyland also voiced enthusiasm for another "Star Wars"-related series, "The Mandalorian", which its producers said is set in an unexplored time for the space saga and features new characters".

Actor Ewan McGregor will return to the "Star Wars" universe with his role as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in a yet-untitled series for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney Plus show is likely a ways off, but at the D23 Disney Plus panel, LucasFilm's Kathleen Kennedy said that all scripts are written and that filming starts next year. "And so it degrades into a world where like the old Samurai movies and the old Westerns where the gun fighters are roaming and people are fighting for their own safety ... it's a unsafe world".

The trailer opens to a shot of Stormtrooper helmets mounted on spikes, suggesting the Galaxy has become a lawless frontier. Unfortunately, we don't know what kind of content to anticipate, but past leaks have claimed that Disney was considering a limited series based on Obi-Wan Kenobi that may only have half a dozen episodes.

Set between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order, it tells the story of a gunfighter (played by Game of Thrones' Pedro Pascal) from Mandalore, the same planet that produced the bounty hunter Boba Fett. McGregor said to Kennedy.

Elsewhere, Disney will also be launching a Muppets Now short form series in 2020 featuring celebrity guests as well as Pixar Shorts focused on Toy Story 4 character Forky.

The new series takes place in a world where the original films exists and sees a high school music group putting on a production of it.
