IPhone XR, XS and XS Max Get Official Price Cut in India

Apple unveiled its iPhone 11 models Tuesday, touting upgraded, ultra-wide cameras as it updated its popular smartphone line-up and cut its entry price to USD699.

The selfie shooter on the front is also one of 12MP, and, with upgraded internals such as the processor, as well as iOS 13, the iPhone 11 Pro features four more hours of battery life in a day than iPhone XS, and iPhone 11 Pro Max offering up to five hours more than iPhone XS Max.

But it's arguably more attractive than the camera blister on the iPhone 11 Pro, an offset circular-lenses-within-a-square on the back cover.

The Pro line of iPhone has rich "super retina" OLED displays and a third camera on the back for professional quality photos and video, as well as a ramped-up zoom and editing software.

On Wednesday morning, Apple lowered market price of the iPhone XR, it's highest selling model in India and globally, to Rs 49,900, from its promotional offer price of Rs 56,900. Apple has added a matte finish to the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max which gives a different look and feel to the old colours - Space Grey, Silver and Gold - as well.

The iPhone price discrepancy is not all down to the currency markets.

Apple is powering the new iPhone 11 with its latest A13 chip, which (as always) the company says is the fastest CPU/GPU combination in a smartphone yet.

On social media, a meme trended featuring Apple CEO Tim Cook bragging about the new features, to which Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, responds by pointing out that Huawei has had those same features for years. The pricing also makes AppleTV+ the cheapest monthly plan for Apple anywhere in the world.

iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max will come with the same storage variants as iPhone 11, however, it will sport a triple camera setup.

The 2020 iPhone will most likely be 5G: perhaps it will be called the iPhone 11S - for speed.

The company also announced a new iPad - the seventh version - that comes with a larger 10.2in display and a full-size keyboard.

The App Store will soon feature an Apple Arcade where you can download and play new games - which Apple was keen to stress will be "exclusive" to it. "That means Apple will miss out on the first six months of the cycle", he said. God knows how the show got green-lighted, but based on production values, Apple has clearly poured a ton of money into the concept.

Apple events are nothing short of glamorous.

Oh, and it is giving away one free year's worth of Apple TV+ to anyone that buys a new expensive Apple product: a move that fanbois will love but raises questions about whether tech giants are trying to pull TV production into the same walled gardens it is used to in the tech arena.

The Apple TV+ price range will begin at A$7.99 per month and be available in over 100 countries.
