Goalkeeper to goaltender: Peter Cech signs for ice hockey club

Cech won four English Premier League (EPL) titles, four English FA Cups, three English League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League, during his Chelsea career, with a further FA Cup success coming at Arsenal.

Cech played for Chelsea for more than 10 years before joining Arsenal in 2015.

Cech, who is now a technical and performance advisor at Stamford Bridge, retired from football at the end of last season.

"I hope I can help this young team to achieve their goals for the season and try to win as many games as possible when I have the chance to play". However, he was also a talented footballer and he played professionally for Scunthorpe Town in 11 games in an effort to get fit after an injury.

The 37-year-old took part in a training session with the Phoenix in August, posting a picture on Instagram of him playing goaltender.

"Some people seem to think I changed my job. No I didn't", Cech said in a post on Twitter.

He said: "The signing of Petr is massive for the Phoenix".

Cech played 15 seasons in the Premier League, amassing a record 207 clean sheets in 443 games for the Blues and Gunners.

The former Czech Republic global added he played the sport as a child and will not sacrifice his existing non-playing role in west London.

Phoenix head coach Andy Hemmings added: 'The signing of Petr is extremely extensive for the Phoenix, he's a extensive guy who trains annoying and I can't wait to sight him fabricate his debut'.

"He has improved a lot since I first saw him on the ice and I am excited to see him play".
