Trump Accused Of Showing Middle Finger To Astronaut Who Corrected Him

Donald Trump congratulates NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir at the International Space Station ahead of first ever all-female spacewalk to fix a section outside the ISS.

"If we are accelerating the moon landing, we are accelerating the Mars landing", Jim Bridenstine said during a panel discussion of space agency heads at the International Astronautical Congress in Washington DC. "You're very fearless people".

A "contaminant" was found on the glove after Kock returned to the interior of the space station, and it wasn't immediately clear where it came from.

"I just want to congratulate you, what you do is incredible", Trump said in the call, which NASA broadcast live. I need to congratulate you both; you're a very fearless, intelligent woman and represent the United States so well.

Koch, an electrical engineer, was leading Meir, who holds a doctorate in marine biology and is making her first ever spacewalk. At the end of the event, A question was put to the entire group - when do we get to Mars?

The all-female spacewalk was earlier planned for International Women's Month in March.

Bridenstine told lawmakers in April that NASA astronauts could make it to the red planet by 2023, pushing up the time frame by two years. Meir and Koch were originally scheduled to take a spacewalk on Monday before NASA accelerated those plans. This is really just us doing our job. As part of that training, Meir donned a 350-pound pressurized space suit before being lowered into a 40-foot-deep pool to work on a life-sized replica of a part of the space station.

Meir and Koch ventured outside the International Space Station on Friday morning to replace a faulty battery charge/discharge unit that failed to activate after new lithium-ion batteries were installed on the space station's exterior structure October 11, according to NASA.
