Bengals draft targets to know in heavyweight Alabama vs. LSU showdown

And each time LSU responded. K.J. Hamler muffed the punt when a teammate backed into him, and though the Nittany Lions recovered, they were pushed back to their 28-yard line.

When Alabama got within five at 39-34, LSU marched down the field again.

Alabama fought back in the second half, but Edwards-Helaire scored two crucial fourth-quarter touchdowns to keep the Tigers ahead. Ohio State doesn't have the résumé to merit keeping it above LSU, but there's no disputing its continued dominance.

Penn State made it a tense game late, pulling to within a score thanks in part to a huge mistake by the refs in this game.

"The committee's job is to enter the room with a blank sheet of paper, meaning we start with an open mind as we consider the strengths and weaknesses of every team, from opening day through this past Saturday", selection committee chair Rob Mullens said last week. He's now in an even stronger position. The question is who goes first and to where. It has nearly become a consensus that Tagovailoa and Burrow are Nos. The return combined with a personal foul on an Alabama offensive lineman after the play, put the ball inside the Alabama 15 with 11 seconds left.

On the very next play, Burrow found Edwards-Helaire for a 13-yard touchdown and a 33-13 halftime lead that Alabama couldn't fully overcome.

He finished with a respectable stat line of 21-of-40 passing for 418 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.

The Tigers (9-0, 5-0 Southeastern Conference, No. 2 CFP) are no longer second fiddle in the SEC West, or maybe in the playoff rankings.

It's not a question with an easy answer either. While losing to LSU is about as good of a loss as a team can have, it's not easily countered with just one victory over a ranked foe.

The first sellout crowd for the Gophers at home in four years swarmed the field after the clock ran out, reveling in the first win at home over a top-five team since a shutout of No. 1 MI in 1977.

Burrow continues to be the most improved player in college football and he was able to get all over the Crimson Tide early in this one.

Wil that scenario play out? "That's the best college football environment I have ever played in as a head football coach".
