Zachary Winston, brother of Michigan State's Cassius Winston, dies at 19

Train traffic was delayed for around 3 hours while authorities investigated the incident.

Zachary Winston is the brother of MSU basketball player Cassius Winston and Albion freshman Khy Winston.

The Albion Department of Public Safety reported the crash at 8:30 a crossing near Erie Street in downtown Albion.

Kipp said the investigation and an interview with the train's engineer have led police to believe that Winston stepped in front of the train intentionally.

"Service on an Amtrak train 355 was temporarily suspended after it came into contact with a person on the track", Kimberly Woods from Amtrak Media Relations said in an emailed statement to The State News.

The Winstons played at the University of Detroit-Jesuit under head coach Pat Donnelly and won the 2016 state championship together. The youngest of the three brothers, Khy, is a freshman on Albion's basketball team.

Albion Police have confirmed that the victim of a pedestrian/train accident was an Albion College student. Beyond that, he was an extremely charismatic young man with an infectious smile.

"Last night, our family lost a student", Albion College president Mauri Ditzler said in a statement on Sunday. Zach was a recognized leader who was well known across every facet of our campus, He was a fantastic student with a world of potential before him. Please keep the family close in your heart.

MSU basketball will play Binghamton Bearcats at the Breslin Center Sunday at 7 p.m.

Cassius Winston, an All-American and 2018-19 Big Ten Player of the Year, scored 21 points with four assists in 38 minutes during a season-opening loss against No. 2 Kentucky.
