She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where they tried to save her to no avail according to her heartbroken grandfather David Rivlin. According to a Memorial page dedicated to the young actress, she passed on November 5 and a funeral service was held for Laurel Griggs over the weekend on November 8.

Laurel made her Broadway debut alongside Scarlett Johannson, 34, in the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 2013.

She is best known for her role as Ivanka in the Tony Award-winning musical ONCE.

Many of Griggs' former Once cast members also attended the funeral, which took place on November 7 at Park West Riverside in New York City. The fans of the young and talented actress are deeply saddened by her sudden demise. "Laurel - you were always smiling and always made other people laugh". Everybody in the Once Family is going to keep you alive through us. R.I.P. You will by no means be overlooked, and we will hardly ever halt loving you.

Fox reports that Griggs lived in New York City with her parents and attended public school at the time of her death.
