Mario Maker 2 adds Link, speedrun mode in version 2 update

Version 2.0 also brings new "Ninji Speedruns" into the mix, which is a new mode that allows you to create courses specifically for the goal of speedruns.

Out of the blue, Nintendo UK has dropped a new trailer for Super Mario Maker 2's next update, and it's a big one! The video showing off all updates can be viewed in the player below! As Link, you'll be able to slash at enemies with the Master Sword, block projectiles and other nasty things with your shield, toss bombs to blow up blocks and enemies, and even fire an arrow off. And with bombs, some walls that would normally be impassable by Mario and friends can easily be blown up. You can use the Master Sword pickup to transform Mario into Link if you're playing in the 8-bit Super Mario Bros. style. When it comes to building courses, there are also unbreakable "P" blocks and high-speed Dash blocks.

The P Block and Switch turn invisible P Blocks to platforms or vice versa.

Finally, the new Ninji Speedruns mode lets players compete in timed challenge on courses created by Nintendo.

Pokey: The iconic stacked cactus from multiple Super Mario games joins Super Mario Maker 2 for the first time.

According to Nintendo, the Ninji Ghosts that appear on your playthrough are selected from player data at a similar performance level. Players can also collect stamps by clearing courses and redeem them in-game to get special Mii costumes.
