At peace with himself, Tiger Woods not chasing Majors

At peace with himself, Tiger Woods not chasing Majors

There are 11 of the 12 players on the US squad for the Presidents Cup in the field, including Woods, Fowler, DeChambeau, Woodland, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar, Tony Finau and Patrick Reed.

While Sunday strategy is part of the big game plan from Els, the South African legend has tried to shift his players concerns to the opening three days of competition where Four-ball and Foursomes take center stage.

Fowler, who has spent part of his downtime sharpening his game with matches against Woods and fellow Presidents Cup teammates Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Gary Woodland in South Florida, knows just how hard it will be for Woods to cede any kind of control.

"I don't want to say Tiger doesn't have a good record but you look at his match-play record through the years and I think the other players, they really get up to play against Tiger, as well they should". The champion golfer is 24-15-1 in eight appearances while he has a losing record in the same number of Ryder Cups with 13 wins, 21 losses and 3 halves. It's a busy two weeks for those here. It'll remain in a locked box, it's just between you and I. If you want to share with the team, share with the team.

"When do I relinquish the captaincy role and officially have someone be the captain?" he stated. "The vice captains can receive advice but they can't give advice to the players, or even caddies". "Well, I'm not going to be yelling at the guys, no". And some of the things that we've been able to acquiesce and mold things into, you know, different things and we've been able to do it, and other things we've been able to talk it through. I'm trying to help them be in the best possible position to go earn points. I remember going to Dubai for my very first time and seeing maybe two or three buildings in the skyline. That's how we win cups. "That was an incredible experience for me.I have struggled physically and hadn't played the Masters and been able to be champion five times".

"I'm focusing on this week, I want to defend and I want to finish the year strong".

Els confirmed that his 12-man team had been posturing for a chance to take on the 82-time PGA TOUR victor man-on-man since Woods officially selected himself to play.

"It's going to be a lot of fun to watch, it's going to be a lot of fun to be a part of, and hopefully the speeches he gives before we go out is going to be pretty inspiring". "Last year was out first crack at it and, talking to some of the guys after the Tour Championship (first win since 2013), over the next few years you will see guys make adjustments and see what is best for them and their schedule".

While Fowler is a late addition to the Presidents Cup team, he's enthusiastic about the chance to play. Trying to figure that out now. We're going down there as a team to get it done together. And also a lot of top players are going to be playing there that particular week.
