Should the Redskins look to hire newly unemployed coach Ron Rivera?

Quarterback Cam Newton will be having surgery on his left foot, per a source.

"I do believe I will get another opportunity, and I will coach again", Rivera told reporters during a news conference at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday. He appeared in only two games this year and was replaced by Kyle Allen, who won his first four starts this season before losing five of his next six games.

After weeks of being on the hot seat, the Carolina Panthers chose to let Ron Rivera go leading up to NFL Week 14, showing just how rough this season has turned out for his former team. "Now, it would be unlikely, but one guy I talked to said Sean Payton secretly loved Lamar Jackson in the draft and he loves that style of quarterback where you can just get creative".

Now he'll be making that impact in a different city - perhaps it will be in Washington, the team whose Week 13 victory over the Panthers may have been the straw that broke David Tepper's patience, or perhaps he will reunite with Dave Gettleman in NY. Rivera spoke on his hope for Newton going forward. I wish him the best. "I just think back to how much fun we had and how great it really was".

Fewell said Newton would undergo the procedure next week.

Rivera also mentioned that he knows what Newton is capable of, "We saw a year ago until the Pittsburgh game what a healthy Cam can do". "I realize it's okay to take time". He was also asked about favoring a coach with an offensive background to one from the defensive side of the ball.

He met with Rivera and Hurney about his health following the second game of the season vs. Tampa Bay.

The former Auburn signal-caller met with foot specialist Robert Anderson in early November.

The foot injury shut Newton down this year after an 0-2 start. He has one year remaining on his contract and will count for about $21 million against the 2020 salary cap.
