Someone Else May Have Used Rep. Devin Nunes' Phone

Nunes sued CNN on Tuesday over a report alleging that Parnas is prepared to testify that Nunes met with former Ukrainian prosecutor general Victor Shokin to dig up dirt on Joe Biden.

He's suing over a November 22 report that Lev Parnas, the indicted associate of Rudy Giuliani, was prepared to tell Congress that Nunes met with Victor Shokin, the former Ukrainian prosecutor, in Vienna past year to discuss "digging up dirt" on Joe Biden.

Parnas, Giuliani, and another associate named Igor Fruman have been accused of conspiring to oust former ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, and Giuliani also has been accused of helping President Trump push Ukrainian officials to investigate corruption allegations against political rival Joe Biden.

Nunes's 47-page complaint accused Parnas of manufacturing a narrative he hoped would help him negotiate a deal with federal prosecutors or obtain immunity from Congress, and argued that it was "obvious to everyone - including disgraceful CNN - that Parnas was a fraudster and a hustler".

CNN's article reportedly did not verify or disprove the claims made by the attorney.

"In the lawsuit, Nunes claimed that he did travel between 30 November and 3 December but was in Libya on those dates to "discuss security issues with General Khalifa Haftar" and also in Malta to meet with U.S. and Maltese officials, including Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, and participated in a repatriation ceremony for the remains of an American World War II soldier missing in action". This meeting never took place.

Further, "Devin Nunes did not communicate with Parnas in December 2018", the court action says.

A CNN spokesperson declined to comment on the pending lawsuit. "It must be held accountable", according to court documents. However, Nunes also said he does not remember any conversation with Parnas that he may have had.

The same Parnas attorney, Joseph Bondy, who CNN cited as its source, publicly called out Nunes on Tuesday after Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee - on which Nunes is the ranking member - released phone records along with its impeachment report on President Trump showing Nunes spoke with Parnas a number of times.

"Did you ever talk to this guy, Lev Parnas, whoever it is?" "CNN is the mother of fake news".
