Liverpool to take full strength squad to Club World Cup

Ill or injured players can be replaced up to 24 hours before Liverpool's first match on December 18.

The selection confirms that Liverpool are concentrating their senior player resources on the Club World Cup as they deal with a schedule clash.

"For nearly everyone in our team [at Liverpool] it's something new", Van Dijk explained.

Liverpool have confirmed they will take a full-strength squad to Qatar for the Club World Cup later this month. "We're all looking forward to going out there and hopefully get that trophy as well".

Klopp has named established stars Van Dijk, Alisson and Salah among his squad to head to Qatar.

It means the quartet are set to miss the cup match at Villa.

Chances are, Williams, Jones, Elliott and Brewster won't play in Qatar, but it is a nice touch from Klopp.

Neil Critchley will manage the Liverpool side that faces Aston Villa in the League Cup quarer-final at Villa Park on December 17.

Youngsters Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Neco Williams are all included in the World Club cup squad.

A team of academy players will take on Villa, suggesting Klopp is nearly willing to write off the Carabao Cup this season, with far bigger competitions to focus on.
