Washington's Chris Petersen resigns, Jimmy Lake to take over

Petersen was also unbeaten against rival Washington State.

Overall, Petersen has a career head-coaching record of 146-38. Lake then followed Petersen to Washington, first as defensive backs coach and then as co-defensive coordinator and finally defensive coordinator the last two seasons.

When he lastly determined to leap to Washington in 2013, Petersen realized he wanted a brand new problem and Boise State wanted a brand new voice in cost.

"He is a great friend and a great coach", said Washington State coach Mike Leach, who's formed a close relationship with Petersen despite their schools' intrastate rivalry in the Apple Cup - a game Petersen won all six of his seasons with the Huskies.

Lake has worked under Petersen since the 2012 season.

Petersen is the third notable coach to step down from a major Power Five program before age 60 over the last few seasons. When Don James walked away as Huskies coach in 1993, it was because the coach felt hung out to dry by the athletic director and university leaders. Petersen will transition into a leadership advisory role within the athletic department, the school said.

"I'll be a Husky for all times, however now's the suitable time for me to step away from my head teaching duties, and recharge", Petersen mentioned. The Huskies finished 7-5, which was considered a disappointment relative to expectations he helped create with three New Year's Day bowl games over the previous four seasons. Jimmy is a great teacher of the game and his track record of developing young men both on and off the field speaks for itself.

Lake, 42, has turned down several other coaching opportunities in recent years and has seemed to be the hand-picked replacement for Petersen. "I can't thank him sufficient for his service and management, and I look ahead to having him keep on workers in a management advisory position, so he can proceed to affect people throughout our division and the complete campus".

But Lake immediately went into coaching, serving as a graduate assistant for EWU before coaching defensive backs (DBs) in Cheney from 2000-03.

But it's still a talented team, it's not going to take much to turn things back around, and now it's up to Jimmy Lake to try. The SEC announced the fine Monday, two days after fans nearly completely covered the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium following the 11th-ranked Tigers' 48-45 win over No. 9 Alabama.

The victor will be announced December 10 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Bentley announced his choice on social media Monday, thanking teammates, coaches and fans for their support during his time as a starter the past three-and-a-half years.
