New 'Birds of Prey' trailer appears to kill off Jared Leto's Joker

Big Facts: On Thursday, the new trailer officially premiered online and promised big explosions, tons of humor and lots of wild characters sharing screen time with Robbie's Harley Quinn. A short-lived live-action TV series titled Birds of Prey aired on The WB from 2002-to-2003 for 13 episodes, starring Ashley Scott as Huntress, Dina Meyer as Barbara Gordon/Oracle, Ian Abercrombie as Alfred Pennyworth and Mia Sara as Harley Quinn. The vehicle then hits an Ace Chemicals factory and then... blows up.

Provided the film can maintain the trailer's confident tone, perhaps Birds Of Prey will be a home run after all. Seeing as Joaquin Phoenix's Joker is far more popular than Jared Leto, and the myriad of controversy surrounding his portrayal, it's safe to say that Leto won't be back in the DCEU anytime soon.

Like Birds of Prey, Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet also drops on February 7, so you'll have something to watch when you get home from the theater. Tell us in the comments!

Quinn joins hands with Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) as they go up against Ewan McGregor's Black Mask.

You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Instead, we're going to make the opposite case: that the character's exclusion from Birds of Prey wasn't just a fitting narrative choice, but a necessary one, and the film will be much better for it. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
