Oscars 2020: Nominations announcement under way

The nominees for best actress are: Cynthia Erivo, "Harriet"; Scarlett Johansson, "Marriage Story"; Saoirse Ronan, "Little Women"; Charlize Theron, "Bombshell"; Renee Zellweger, "Judy".

The 92nd Oscar nominations are being announced Monday beginning at 8:18 AM ET/5:18 AM PT. Nominees in all 24 categories highlighting the year's best in film will be revealed in a global live presentation by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

"Joker" is the leading nominee for the Academy Awards with 11 nominations, with "The Irishman" close behind. Films vying for the coveted best picture award include "Ford v Ferrari", "The Irishman", "Jojo Rabbit", "Joker", "Little Women", "Marriage Story", "1917", "Once Upon a Hollywood" and "Parasite" - many of which also picked up nods in the acting and creative races. The film's nominations included best actor for Joaquin Phoenix and best director for Phillips.

Jennifer Lopez was quite recently thought to be a major contender to win Best Supporting Actress for Hustlers, competing alongside Laura Dern.

Nominations are underway for the 2020 Oscars in Los Angeles, the 92nd edition of the awards which is due to take place on February 9.

Social satire "Parasite" became the first South Korean movie to be nominated in both the best picture and best worldwide film categories.

This year's ceremony, like last year's, will not have an overall host.
