Not My Headache, Says Shikhar Dhawan On Team India's Preferred Opening Combination

Left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who was among runs during the T20I series against Sri Lanka, believes now that he has performed he is in the picture again for the opening slot as India prepare for World T20.

India secured a massive 78-run victory in the third T20I match against Sri Lanka here on Friday and consequently, won the series by 2-0 as the first match was abandoned due to rain. He registered a 97-run opening stand with KL Rahul, who also notched up his ninth T20I fifty.

Rohit Sharma had a rollicking 2019 with five centuries in the ICC World Cup and a couple of more during the various series before and after that, which makes him a certainty in the side. Shikhar has done well in one- dayers and Rahul is in great form.

"So that is why, consciously, we are doing it and the result is in front of you that we are winning even while batting first". Rahul has done well in the last two months and he is a really good player. But I think people need to stop pitting players against each other. I am happy with the fact that I could express myself in both opportunities I got. "Now it's a captain and coach headache, why should I worry". "Why should I worry", he added.

Pune: Shikhar Dhawan says India are seeking complete mastery over defending totals, the ambition prompting them to make a "conscious" decision to bat first on winning the toss in a T20 World Cup year.

"We are making (setting) big targets and that brings a lot of confidence to us as a team".

Virat Kohli recently stated that he will not pit the openers against each other but considering the series against Australia and Rathour echoes his thoughts.

"And last game was quite normal and before that I was not in the team, so I didn't watch matches as well and I didn't knew what was happening". With the three-match ODI series against Australia nearing, what combinations will India go ahead with remains to be seen.
