Barcelona want ex-Middlesbrough forward Martin Braithwaite

The France global, who joins fellow striker Luis Suarez on the sidelines, underwent surgery in Finland last week.

The Spanish side are only permitted to sign a free agent or a striker who is already plying their trade in La Liga and they have set their sights on Braithwaite who has a £15million release clause in his contract with Leganes.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona sent the relevant documentation to La Liga's medical committee last Thursday asking for permission to sign a replacement.

Barcelona are eyeing Leganes striker Martin Braithwaite but Leganes will not be able to sign their own replacement, according to Spanish outlet SPORT.

Braithwaite endured a tough time whilst at Championship side Middlesbrough where he scored nine goals in 36 appearances for the North East club.

Champion of Spain paid a "Leganes" 20 million euros for the 28-year-old footballer.

In the second half of last season, he was more prolific, with 5 goals and 5 assists in 19 games.

A former Arsenal and West Ham forward Lucas Perez and Real Sociedad's Willian Jose, a previous target of Tottenham, have also been linked with a move.

Barcelona's players showed their support for their stricken Frenchman - who joins Luis Suarez on the sidelines as a long-term absentee - by wearing his No 11 shirt ahead of their 2-1 win against Getafe on Saturday.
