EPL: Vardy overtakes Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba’s goal record after Leicester victory

Jamie Vardy converted two penalties in Leicester City's clinical 3-0 win at West Brom and matched a Premier League record set by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Foxes bounced back from a disappointing end to last season to get their new Premier League campaign off to a winning start as Timothy Castagne enjoyed a dream debut with the opening goal before Vardy secured the points.

Vardy scored 23 times last season to win the Golden Boot and his two goals took him to 105 top-flight goals, one above former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba in the all-time scoring charts.

The former England global will turn 34 in January, but Rodgers believes his conditioning will ensure he has another big season.

"Ndidi playing at centre-back was outstanding", Leicester manager Rodgers told BBC Sport after the game. In that situation to put us two up he showed great composure. We don't get goals against, so it's a team effort and I'm obviously very happy with my goal.

Bilic added: 'I was really pleased with how we played until their goal but the biggest disappointment was our reaction to the first goal. I suspect he will have another great season'.

On the 73rd minute, Kyle Bartley was penalized for pulling back Vardy inside the box, and the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors. "He'll never be dropping back to join with bright intricate play but he's a killer in the box".

It was the ideal start to their new campaign, with Jamie Vardy also netting two penalties.
