Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Announces New Contract At Arsenal On Instagram Live

The Gabon worldwide was entering the final year of his contract and, even though there were strong suggestions he would eventually sign, some Arsenal fans were growing increasingly concerned it may not happen.

The Frenchman won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his 22 year spell at the club, but split opinion towards the end of his reign after a number of less successful campaigns.

Over 109,000 people were watching the stream via the official Arsenal account, with Aubameyang adding: "I signed the thing because I want to become an Arsenal legend, maybe leave a legacy, it is the time to work a lot".

Whilst the signing of a backup keeper mightn't excite the fanbase too much, Arsenal and Arteta know all too well the importance of a reliable understudy, having watched Martinez come in for the final games of the season and flourish.

Arsenal confirmed the news themselves on their website in a statement that said: "Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has signed a new three-year contract with us!"

Aubameyang was joined on the call by former Arsenal striker Ian Wright and his current team-mate Alexandre Lacazette, who praised his decision to sign the contract.

"I believe in Arsenal".

The Gunners will looking to record successive Premier League victories when Arsenal face West Ham United at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is on the market for a new goalkeeper to support Bernd Leno this season as Emiliano Martinez is set to join Aston Villa in search of regular first team football.

The 2015 African Footballer of the Year finished as the Premier League's joint top scorer in 2019. He wants to be up there with the best players in the world and leave his mark.

"He's an important leader for the team and a big part of what we're building".
