Tottenham Nearing Gareth Bale Transfer As Manchester United Focuses On 'Other Priorities'

Gareth Bale has been linked with a return to Tottenham several times in the past, but this summer there appear to be concrete discussions about a move back to London.

Should a deal be agreed the move could see Alli (above) join Madrid on loan with the Spanish chamions paying half of Bale's reported £500,000 a week wage and Tottenham funding the rest.

"We are talking. It's where he wants to go". Tottenham and Bale have yet to reach an agreement, but the Premier League club has a "special place" in the heart of the 31-year-old.

Manchester United have also always been linked with Bale, who is still viewed in Old Trafford as a potential transfer target should they fail to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett has previously dismissed talk the forward could leave on loan.

Prior to Spurs and Madrid negotiations for Bale, sources told ESPN that United's interest in the four-time Champions League victor was serious, but the club was "focusing on other priorities" at this stage.

We'll have to wait and see how things progress but signing Bale as a stop-gap for £18.5m seems like a decent bit of business if Manchester United can not get a deal agreed with Dortmund for Sancho this summer.

One obvious alternative is Porto's Alex Telles who only has a year left to his contract and can be bought for cheap, with some claiming he can be signed for as low as €15m. Sources said United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only sees Bale as a backup option should a move for top target Sancho not come to fruition.

Meanwhile, United are continuing negotiations with Madrid over full-back Sergio Reguilon, but will not match the Spanish giants £27m asking price.

In their response to Sergio Reguilon's decision, Sevilla are closing in on the signing of another left-back Marcos Acuna from Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.
