The spokesperson also said that Harris has taken "2 PCR tests since October 8th, and the tests have all been negative, most recently on Wednesday, October 14th". As a result, a planned trip to North Carolina Thursday was called off as a safety precaution.

Democrats especially have increased their use of virtual campaigning, fundraising and get-out-the-vote efforts to limit the spread and avoid unnecessary health risks.

After spending time with Harris, both individuals attended "personal, non-campaign" events in the past week, O'Malley Dillon said.

The person traveled on the Democratic presidential nominee's plane for his Monday trip to OH and his Tuesday trip to Florida, but O'Malley Dillon stressed that the person was never in close contact with the 77-year-old Biden on the large 737 plane.

"Senator Harris was not in close contact, as defined by the CDC, with either of these individuals during the two days prior to their positive tests; as such, there is no requirement for quarantine", Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a statement Thursday morning. Biden's last announced negative test was Tuesday.

The two also discussed the viral topic of NBC hosting a town hall on Thursday with President Trump at the same time as Joe Biden's town hall event on ABC.

One week ago on 8 October, Ms Harris and Mr Biden campaigned together in Arizona, where they held multiple appearances and interviews. During the plane flight, Dillon said Harris, Allen and the non-staff flight crew were all wearing N95 masks and that the vice-presidential nominee "was not within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes with either of them".

She said that she had tested negative twice this week and is not experiencing any symptoms. The California Senator's communications director Liz Allen and an unnamed flight crewmember both tested positive, forcing Harris to postpone traveling until Monday. The Biden Harris campaign has maintained strict protocols to protect their team, which includes closing their campaign office in Philadelphia and having staff work remotely.

The campaign has begun the contact tracing process to notify everyone who came into contact with the individuals during the potential infection window. Today's exceedingly cautious steps are part of that commitment, ' Dillon said.
