Sasse says Trump kowtows to dictators,

Ben Sasse after the Nebraska senator's comments on a call about him were leaked. And then he went into full economic shutdown mode, ' said Sasse, who is up for reelection but is expected to prevail. Ben Sasse on Twitter, calling the Nebraska senator "a liability to the Republican Party, and an embarrassment" to the state.

Jim Carrey used his new cartoon to widen his targets beyond President Trump and top Republicans in the U.S. Senate.

In a call with Republican constituents, Sasse criticized Trump for "the way he kisses dictators' butts" and "ignores" Hong Kong freedom fighters as well as Uyghurs in Chinese concentration camps.

The remarks on Wednesday were far more scathing than any others he has made recently, and particularly notable given the tight hold Trump has taken over the Republican Party in his four years as president.

On the call, Sasse was responding to a constituent who asked him' Why do you have to criticize [Trump] so much?'

James Wegmann, communications director for Sasse, said in a statement on Saturday, "Ben said the same thing to Nebraskans that he has repeatedly said to the President directly in the Oval Office". This week, he lavished cringeworthy praise on Trump's third Supreme Court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, who he will no doubt happily vote to confirm as well. "I'm going to say 'I lost to the worst candidate in the history of politics.' I'm not going to feel so good", Trump said.

"The way he kisses dictators' butts", Sasse said, listing his reservations about Trump.

"I mean, he and I have a very different foreign policy", Sasse said.

He continued: "The United States now regularly sells out our allies under his leadership, the way he treats women, spends like a drunken sailor". The ways that I criticized President Obama for that kind of spending, I've criticized President Trump for, as well.

"He mocks evangelicals behind closed doors", Sasse said, referring to Trump. "For months, he treated it like a news cycle-by-news cycle PR crisis rather than a multi-year public health challenge, which is what it is".

"I'm now looking at the possibility of a Republican bloodbath in the Senate, and that's why I've never been on the Trump train", he said.

"He talks a good game but generally falls into line with Trump at the drop of a hat", Swalwell said.

Some of his most searing comments dealt with the president's handling of the coronavirus - where polls show Trump is struggling against rival Joe Biden, with daily infections above 50,000.

Nebraska Democrat Chris Janicek, who is taking on Sasse for the Senate seat on November 3, retweeted an account Thursday that characterized Sasse's vote to acquit as "feckless".
