Smith roars but De Villiers spoils his day

After restricting Royals to 177/6, Bangalore knocked down the winning for the loss of just three wickets with two balls to spare.

RCB's double go-slow. A troubling pattern for RCB this season has been their middle-overs batting.

"It was nice to spend sometime in the middle, having not done much of it in 5 or 6 games". Butler lost the wicket when the team score was at 127 at 15th over.

Kohli brought the team's hundred by lofting Rahul Tewatia for a big six over long-on, but Padikkal, while trying to break the shackles after struggling his way to 35 off 37 balls, got out when his pull shot failed to clear Ben Stokes in the deep. Kohli had whipped the ball but Tewatia stopped the ball, leaped over the boundary and then hoped back inside to complete a thrilling catch. But AB was still around and once more, he was the difference. In a happy throwback to IPL 2014, when Uthappa found his mojo upon moving up the order, he produced a revelatory display of playing Washington Sundar in the PowerPlay. Tewatia then creamed a six and a four in the penultimate over.

Uthappa continued to attack as he hit a six and a four while Stokes hit his first four of the match as RR scored 17 of the fourth over to move to 38/0.

Smith finds his batting touch. Smith and Buttler did the rebuild job through a 58-run stand in which the Australian was allowed to turn aggressor thanks to questionable tactics from Udana. In my eyes he's the most impactful player in the IPL.

Dhawan made 101 off 57 balls with 14 fours and one six but his partners Shreyas Iyer (23) and Marcus Stoinis (24) hit the boundaries that kept Delhi in the hunt.

The INR 10 crore acquisition continued to be excellent for RCB with the ball. Chris Morris (4/26) was the peak of the bowlers, capturing four wickets, while Yuzvendra Chahal (2/34) claimed two for RCB. "It's purely because of the presence of someone like him that teams feel we are never out of the game".

Royals lost two wickets and could score only four runs in the final over bowled by Chris Morris and Smith said "the last over was a bit disappointing". He did field through the chase but was visibly limping.

AB de Villiers' unbeaten 55 off 22 balls guided Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals but the right-handed batsman has revealed that he feels "very very nervous" chasing the target. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) occupy 4th spot but given their recent shaky form, it seems likely that another team could usurp them from that position. The Royals have a shorter turnaround and will face Chennai Super Kings on October 19.
