Whitmer Says Trump’s ‘Disturbing’ Criticism is ‘Dangerous’: Americans ‘Need To Step Up’

"You gotta get your governor to open up your state", said President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Muskegon Saturday.

After saying that the alleged plot against Whitmer is "awful" and that "no one should ever have this thing happen to them", Trump echoed the President by arguing that "people are frustrated around America" and in MI, particularly, when it comes to COVID-19 restrictions. It has got to end. Whitmer has been a target of Trump's ire for months, but he has been renewing his attacks on her ever since she tied his rhetoric to the recently-foiled militia plot to kidnap and murder her.

Trump criticised Whitmer on Saturday for her policies to curb the outbreak, drawing shouts of "lock her up" from a rally crowd.

The President spoke for about an hour and a half, focusing heavily on his opponents, and calling out Governor Gretchen Whitmer, saying she needs to reopen businesses and schools.

Following news of the attempted kidnapping, Trump had not denounced the men allegedly behind the attack but tore into the governor, saying she's "done a bad job".

Pressed on the President's amplification of his supporters' "lock her up" chants the morning after, Lara Trump piggybacked off of her father-in-law's talking point that his Department of Justice "actually thwarted this attack against" the MI governor.

Just last week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation foiled a kindapping plot orchestrated by a group of militiamen.

Since the men behind the attack have been arrested, Whitmer has accused Trump of using rhetoric that sows division and hatred.

"I guess they said she was threatened, right?"

People in the crowd began applauding and chanting "lock her up".

"The president has to realise that words of the president of the United States weigh a ton", Pelosi said Sunday, echoing Whitmer's comments.

"So I think people are frustrated and look - the President was at a rally. It just has to", she said. "It is risky not just for me and my family, but for public servants everywhere who are doing their jobs and trying to protect their fellow Americans", the Democrat Whitmer said, urging people on both sides of the aisle to "call this out and bring the heat down". "Of course he wasn't encouraging people to threaten this woman". I see everything that is said about and to her online. "The biggest antidote to his poison is the vote".
