Debate or no debate, that is the question

Debate or no debate, that is the question

In a document released by the White House on August 10, the administration listed these as the key takeaways from Trump's response to the pandemic: "Took early action to cut off travel from China; Built the world's leading testing system from nothing; Enacted mitigation measures to slow the spread; mobilized public and private sectors to secure needed supplies; Took action to protect vulnerable Americans; Launched effort to deliver a vaccine and therapeutics in record time; Provided support to workers and businesses; Paved way for reopening to get America working again; Surged resources to hotspots as they arose; Confronted China as origin of the virus while Democrats and media cowered".

The Commission said it made the decision to go virtual in consultation with the Cleveland Clinic "to protect the health and safety of all involved", not directly in response to Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis.

Earlier Thursday, President Trump said he wouldn't participate in a virtual town hall. The debate format, a "town hall" style debate, with the candidates taking questions from audience members, will also remain the same.

Trump refused to participate in the second debate after the Commission on Presidential Debates announced Thursday morning that it would be virtual.

Trump told Bartiromo that he had no advance notice of the change.

The debate was moved virtually after Mr Trump tested positive for coronavirus last week.

The Trump campaign argued that the debate commission was trying to "hide" Joe Biden from the people. "We'll pass on this sad excuse to bail out Joe Biden and do a rally instead". As he campaigned in Arizona, Mr Biden said he would indeed attend the October 22 debate, scheduled for Nashville, Tennessee.

Following a contentious first debate on September 29, Trump and Biden were scheduled to return to the debate stage in a town hall format on October 15 in Miami.

In the results, Pew found that more American adult voters see Biden as a greater symbol of unity, with 50 percent saying he would do a better job to "bring the country closer together", compared to only 30 percent who said the same about Trump.

United States media are saying that chances of the second debate taking place next Thursday are now slim.

BIDEN: The Democratic campaign has proposed building on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as "Obamacare".

On Thursday morning, Trump called into Fox Business to speak with Maria Bartiromo about his coronavirus symptoms, quarantine, and his upcoming debate with Joe Biden, which is scheduled for October 15.

"The CPD and the media can not hide Joe Biden forever", the Trump campaign wrote.

These developments came a day after Vice President Pence and Sen. The measures were put in place after Trump and several other White House officials tested positive for the coronavirus - though Pence has not.

"We agreed to three debates back in the summer", Mr Biden said.
